22 Iraqi Universities in the Times Higher Education World Ranking
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 released its results, featuring over 2,000 institutions from 115 countries around the world. Twenty-two Iraqi universities secured positions in the ranking, showing an increase compared to the 2024 edition, which included thirteen universities. This positions Iraq 29th globally in terms of the number of ranked universities. The universities competed in the Times ranking based on primary criteria, using 18 indicators to assess performance in five areas: teaching (learning environment) 29.5%, research environment 29%, research quality 30%, international outlook 7.5%, and industry income 4%. The Times global ranking also introduced the “Study in Iraq” program (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/where-to-study/study-in-iraq), designed to introduce international students to Iraqi universities, showcasing their performance and competitiveness with educational institutions worldwide in the areas of teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
