Accountancy Department

Accountancy department was established in 1998-1999. It was established for the purpose of providing the work market with qualified figures that are professional in the accountancy scope. It tries to satisfy the market needs. The department aims at training professionals holding bachelor of Science degree in accountancy who are well qualified to work in various organizations by providing the graduates with the scientific, academic and application bases which enable them to work in this specialization and continue their post graduate studies in this major. The graduates from this department can work in all establishments and directorates of both the productive and service sectors.

The department is looking forward to developing the knowledge of its students and developing the quality of the department and providing the labor market needs of qualified accountants who keep pace with local and international scientific developments in this specialization.

Make efforts to achieve the department’s vision by preparing fully scientifically qualified graduates who meet the needs of the labor market, their distinction, and provide them with knowledge in the field of accounting in particular, the skills necessary to practice the profession and adhere to its ethics.

The accounting department aims to achieve the following: –

1. Providing the student with a broad knowledge of accounting topics and supporting study materials so that the student is fully qualified
2. Raising the level of students ’performance and competence to be qualified to work in government facilities or the private sector.
3. Providing them with the ethics of the accounting and auditing profession.
4. Community service through continuing education or providing courses for workers in establishments.
5. Contribution of scientific research.
6. Encouraging faculty members to participate in scientific conferences, symposiums and community service

The opportunities available for graduates of the accounting department are many in the field of accounting and auditing such as
1 – fill the accounting jobs in the private sector, whether “service, industrial or agricultural.
2- Holding accounting and auditing jobs in public sector departments .
3 – Opportunities to complete higher academic studies (Masters, PhD)
4 – Opportunities to complete the professional study in auditing within Iraq (Institute of Higher Accounting and Financial Studies) University of Baghdad, and the Arab Institute of Accounting and Auditing.
5 – Opportunities to complete professional and academic study outside Iraq.

6-Opportunities to join the bodies and organizations that practice accounting work such as the Iraqi Accountants Syndicate and the Iraqi Economists Association.
