Minister of Higher Education Launches the Arab Scientific Research Award
During the 46th meeting of the Arab Scientific Research Councils Union, hosted in Baghdad by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research at the University of Baghdad, Minister Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudiannounced the introduction of the Arab Scientific Research Award.
The opening session featured remarks from Dr. Abdel Majid Benamara, Secretary-General of the Arab Scientific Research Councils Union, alongside representatives from the Union of Arab Universities and the League of Arab States. The program also included a lecture on science, technology, and innovation indicators in the Arab world.
In his speech, Minister Al-Aboudi welcomed attendees, reaffirming Iraq’s commitment to strengthening collaboration among Arab research institutions. He highlighted the importance of this gathering in advancing the Union’s strategic vision, improving the quality of scientific research, and fostering a dynamic and integrated research environment aligned with regional and global academic objectives.
The Minister emphasized that addressing challenges in Arab scientific research requires a unified strategic approachand joint efforts. He stressed that Arab universities and research institutions possess significant potential to produce high-quality research, positioning them for global recognition in academic indexing platforms and prestigious repositories.
As a key initiative, Dr. Al-Aboudi proposed the Arab Scientific Research Award, urging the Union’s General Secretariat to formally adopt and establish the award. The initiative aims to incentivize researchers, with a dedicated committee overseeing its structure, procedures, and financial incentives for outstanding contributions in scientific research.
In appreciation of his role in hosting the 46th session, Dr. Abdel Majid Benamara honored Minister Naeem Al-Aboudi. The Minister, in turn, presented awards to representatives of research organizations and the delegate of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States.
