Baghdad Book Seminar

The Baghdad International Book Fair hosted a special cultural seminar on the Higher Education Reading Award and its impact on cultural awareness within Iraq’s academic community. The seminar was led by Dr. Alaa Abdul Hassan Atiya, Advisor to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, who highlighted the competition’s foundation, initiated by Minister Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi.

The award aims to engage university students from both public and private institutions in fostering organized cultural awareness and combating the spread of negative content consumption. Dr. Atiya noted that the first and second editions of the award have gained significant interest among academics and intellectuals. Additionally, Minister Al-Aboudi proposed expanding the initiative to all Arab educational institutions through the Arab League Educational, Cultural, and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).

The Ministry of Higher Education has extended the deadline for the Higher Education Reading Award competition to October 5, 2024, with the online exam scheduled for October 12, 2024, and the winners’ ceremony set for October 24, 2024.

The competition requires participants to read two books:
1. “Islamic Perspectives on the Declaration of Human Rights” by Martyr Muhammad Al-Sadr
2. “The Civilizational Question: How to Innovate Our Future in a Changing World” by Zaki Milad
