Elite Symposium on Countering Intellectual Terrorism
Under the esteemed patronage of Professor Dr. Mahmoud Jawad Abu Al-Shaer, Dean of Al-Rafidain University College, and in the presence of Assistant Professor Dr. Samer Saeed Issa, Associate Dean for Scientific Affairs, an insightful symposium titled “Countering Intellectual Terrorism” took place on Saturday, November 2, 2024. This event was organized as part of the ongoing collaboration between private colleges and the University of Baghdad, in coordination with the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The symposium was expertly supervised by Ms. Nada Adnan Taher, Head of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division, in partnership with Ms. Basma Mohammed Khalil, Head of the Scientific Departments’ Activities Unit.

Renowned speakers, including Dr. Saad Abdul Hamid Shalf, Legal Advisor at the Accountability and Justice Commission, and Mr. Hussam Star Dakhel, provided a comprehensive analysis of intellectual terrorism—tracing its historical roots, examining its diverse forms, and highlighting its profound psychological and societal implications.

The event attracted a distinguished audience, including department heads, faculty members, and students, reflecting the critical need to raise awareness about the dangers of extremist ideologies and the strategies required to counteract their influence. Intellectual terrorism remains a significant challenge, leveraging media, education systems, and digital platforms to propagate radical beliefs that incite division and violence.

Such academic forums serve as vital arenas for intellectual engagement, fostering critical dialogue and strategic discussions on the most effective methods to curb the spread of extremist thought and safeguard societal stability.
