Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Jawad Abu Al-Sheir, Dean of Al-Rafidain University College, an activity titled “Smoking: Causes, Effects, and the Implementation of Regulations to Ban It in Public Places and Universities” was conducted on Thursday, October 24, 2024.
The activity, organized as a survey, was held as part of the initiatives of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Division. It was supervised and coordinated by Ms. Basma Mohammed Khalil and Ms. Hanaa Hamid Mirza, with participation from both students and faculty members.
Key Findings of the Survey:
The results indicated a rise in smoking rates among individuals aged 18 to 22, with the primary causes including:
• Stress and anxiety
• Personal issues
• Academic exams
• Peer influence
Survey Recommendations:
• Increasing awareness campaigns on the dangers of smoking.
• Promoting smoke-free university environments to create a healthier academic atmosphere.
The findings emphasize the urgent need for preventive measures and strict regulations to limit smoking in educational institutions, fostering a healthier and more productive learning environment.
